Another Kitchen Renovation

I can’t believe we’re doing this again!

My wife – lovely as she is – can be a real demon when she gets an idea stuck in her craw. We literally just renovated the house, tore it down to its foundations and then built it up again into something that we both love and agreed on, and now she’s telling me that she needs to have another go!

ANOTHER GO!

She does make some good points, I’ll grant her that. The kitchen has been a debacle from the start – but do we need a complete kitchen replacement? Ideas like that get people in trouble. Specifically, will get me in trouble! I just wanted a nice, easy kitchen renovation. Maybe move a sink over here a bit, install a new stove, a bigger cut-out for the fridge, hell a marble countertop if we’re feeling fancy. But maybe one or two different things – not the whole list!

There’s no use arguing, I suppose. She always was the more strong-willed one in the relationship. It’s what attracted me to her in the first place – we met at a bar in university, when I overheard her demanding a bartender remake her drink because it wasn’t up to her standards. When the poor man (boy, in hindsight) refused, she leapt over the counter and made it herself.

To think that I ended up marrying that woman… it boggles the mind! And now she wants to discuss ideas for laundry renovations? Around Melbourne, me and my other relationship-bound friends had a saying: “just give in, or eternity is going to drag on forever.”

I never did like those friends.

What’s that other saying? “Better late than never”. I suppose that’s our house at the moment – close to perfection, but just a little bit… late. We’re getting there, one redesign at a time. Eventually, we’ll both be satisfied. Eventually, we’ll settle down in a perfectly designed and built home with an excellent kitchen and a wonderful laundry.

Eventually.

Right?
