I’m starting to get extremely worried about the future of my company. I mean, it’s not my company entirely – I share it with three of my best friends. We’ve all been friends since high school and have been inseparable ever since. Our drive for this business started when one of us bought a soap-making kit at a farmer’s market. I’ll never forget the day when we all ran over to her house to start making soaps. Very quickly we realised that this was a lot of fun and something we could continue experimenting with. Over time we started trying out different ingredients to make our soaps. Ten years later and here we are; a national empire.
If someone told me ten years ago that my whole income would come from a little hobby I toyed with when I was sixteen, I’d have laughed right in their face. I actually had no interest in opening a business. I wanted to go to university and study counselling. The rapid business growth is what got in the way. Not that I’m complaining! The business has gotten so big that we’re looking at ideas for commercial office fitouts. Melbourne is where we’ve decided to set up our main office. Really, we could’ve set up anywhere. We have a huge customer base in Sydney and Queensland, but Melbourne is our home. It’s where we started.
I wish the process of us moving to a bigger office was a more relaxed one. Unfortunately, all these changes have sparked a lot of debate and hostility between a couple of girls in the group. I hate when the group fights. We all built an empire together and we need to remember that. Instead, they’re busy debating Melbourne office design. Who would’ve thought? This should be a happy time where we celebrate our achievements. Instead, two of the girls are too busy having a personality clash. I guess the inner counsellor in me will have to step in and mediate this situation.
