Growing Berries

My daughter is making so much progress with her fear of leaving the house and I couldn’t be prouder. It is truly beautiful watching her grow, all while growing her plants too. I knew gardening had many positives to it but I didn’t think that there were this many. She truly is flourishing and starting to reach her full potential. The other day she surprised me tremendously. Now, before you read this and think ‘what’s the big deal’, please remember that my daughter had not left the house in nearly twelve months. It was sad to watch. Her complexion and mental state were suffering, and I hate to think what impact the lack of vitamin D had on her. I guess she’s making up for it now!

She had me truly surprised the other day. She asked me to sit down in the kitchen and presented me with two saucers of berries and told me to have a taste of each. After trying both saucers of berries she asked me to tell her which I thought tasted better. I told her the ones on the left. She jumped in joy and revealed that the left saucer were the berries she had grown in the garden and the berries on the right she bought from the store. I know it’s hard to grow your own berries, so I couldn’t help but share her joy. Moments later a thought hit me. Did she just say she bought the other berries from the store? I quizzed her and my thoughts were true. My precious angel who had hated venturing outside her bedroom was now brave enough to go to the supermarket. Talk about progress!

My daughter tells me she’s interested in growing more fruit and vegetables for us to eat, as well as growing more roses. One day while browsing the internet I happened to stumble across some pink miniature roses for sale online. I sent her the link and next thing I know, she’s planting these same roses only a week later. She inspires me. I love seeing her so happy.
