My grandson has always needed a bit of extra help to get along in life, bless him. But he’s doing well now! My daughter has gotten him set up with a brand new care regime, full of people who can help him live his life to the fullest. It’s touching, really – we never had this kind of support in my day. The things these angels will do now!

It warms the soul, it does, convinces a cynical old lady that perhaps the youngsters really do have the world headed in a good direction. Of course, I always knew that my family would be leading the charge! But now there are professionals, championing positive behaviour support programs in Adelaide, and the world is better off with them.

My Jake – my grandson – is happier than I’ve ever seen him, in all of his years! He’s eating well and sleeping well – they’re saying he could have a job by the end of next month! We never thought anything like that would be possible, and now… the world has just opened up so much.

I wish my Harold had been around to see this, of course. He died while Jake was still young, in a specialist disability accommodation facility. They took care of him there, in ways I wasn’t able to. I suppose that was my first brush with the disability care system, helping Harold into his final home. Would that it be my last!

I can feel myself creaking on in my years now, though. It happened slowly, slowly… and then all at once! I’m still looking after myself, of course – I refuse to be a burden until the absolute final moments – but it’s nice to know that if I ever do need old-aged disability support that I’ll have this lovely system in Adelaide to fall back on.

And my family of course – maybe Jake will be a nurse by then! Fully qualified and able to help me through my creaking and groaning! Until then, I’m just glad that he’s safe and happy.
